Melissa Wood-Tepperberg got her start as a fitness influencer, but these days it would be more apt to call her the mother of wellness. Melissa first began filming workouts in her living room in 2017, soon attracting a hugely loyal following thanks to her accessible yet aspirational workouts that combined pilates and yoga. Living room workouts turned into a wildly popular Vimeo channel and booming subscription business, and the Melissa Wood Health (MWH) community grew even bigger as people sought out at-home workouts during the pandemic.
Melissa soon realized it was time to evolve the brand to suit her growing fan base, and as a wellness expert who wasn’t particularly technical, she needed the right partner to pull it off. Melissa Wood Health partnered with Heady to build a game-changing custom digital platform that would set the stage for its next phase of growth. It was a major undertaking and Melissa was a hands-on collaborator as we worked together to pave the digital future for her brand, coming out the other side as a star digitalpreneur and head of a full-fledged digital wellness empire.

To accommodate fans’ demands for more content, she brought on a diverse group of seven additional creators ranging from yogis and meditation masters to dance instructors and prenatal experts, turning MWH into a resource for not just workouts but a one-stop powerhouse for fitness, nutrition, beauty, and lifestyle content. The MWH app offers user-centric features like a robust weekly schedule that allows members to easily plan their workouts at a glance, filters that help them quickly find exactly the workouts they want, and digital recipe cards that make it easy to continue their wellness journey in the kitchen. It currently enjoys a 5-star rating on the App Store with more than 5,000 reviews as Melissa continues to further her mission of making mindful movement attainable for all.

Nandhita Kumar is the Head of UX & Product at Heyday, a New York-based skincare brand (and Heady client!) that set out to democratize the facial with accessible, personalized skincare treatments. Nandhita studied human-computer interaction at Carnegie Mellon University, and that expertise took center stage at Heyday: As the first dedicated member of the brand’s tech and product team, she was an early advocate for enhancing the digital client experience and making sure every interaction between clients and their skin therapists is memorable in all the right ways.
With ambitious expansion plans in sight, Heyday needed an omnichannel experience that would allow customers to seamlessly book in-store facials and purchase products while getting a bird’s eye view of their personal skincare journey — and that’s where Heady came in. As we worked together to launch their client-facing iOS app in 2022, Nandhita was instrumental to the app’s creation and a key collaborator in the development process.

As a Harvard graduate, former attorney and beauty editor, and a published author, Debra Shigley’s resume was plenty impressive long before her foray into the tech world. In 2016 she co-founded the Colour app, a mobile app for in-home hair care services that she summed up as “Uber for black hair.”
While on-demand beauty apps and companies like DryBar were already huge in the mid-2010s, women of color were largely being left out of the conversation. Despite spending more than $2 billion a year on hair care products, Black women are often relegated to the “ethnic hair” aisle and all too often have difficulty finding stylists who know how to work with their hair. Geared toward women of color with textured hair, Atlanta-based Colour was more than just a cool new app that connected experienced local stylists with women of color for at-home appointments: It was a movement to democratize the hair space.
A self-described “non-technical founder,” Debra worked closely with the Heady team to bring the vision for the app to life. She encouraged other women of color not to be intimidated by the tech world, proclaiming in an interview that “If you have a vision for something, you just sort of have to start, and find great teams of people to work with you.” Debra has since moved onto other (no less impressive) ventures, now serving as on-air host for The Weather Channel where she also writes and produces segments covering politics and social movements — and for all of the above, we’re psyched to highlight her as one of the moms in tech we admire.

Maureen Sullivan has made her mark on the tech industry by building brands that cater to the unique needs of women consumers. As the former President and COO of Heyday, a brand (and Heady client!) focused on democratizing the facial, Maureen's leadership accelerated the company’s capabilities to deliver personalized treatments in a way that’s revolutionizing the skincare space.
Her list of accomplishments doesn’t stop there: Under Maureen’s leadership as President and COO, Rent the Runway grew into a disruptive subscription service with a $1 billion valuation, giving people a more sustainable way to get dressed while becoming a household name.
The Stanford graduate previously served as President at AOL.com, overseeing editorial, product and engineering, business operations, and partnerships and co-creating MAKERS, a groundbreaking women's leadership platform.
Now, as a partner at investment advisory group TCG, she lends her expertise to discover up-and-coming women-focused consumer businesses and subscription services. Ishita oversees human resources for our Mumbai office and plays a crucial role in recruitment, onboarding, and making sure the entire team stays happy at Heady — and as a mom to one adorable daughter, she does it all while juggling the demands of motherhood.

Tierra leads the charge to help shape and define Heady’s brand identity and strategically position it to resonate with clients and she does it all while also playing the role of stepmom to a college student and mama-to-be of a baby boy.
As a Level 2 QA engineer at Heady, Hema works on special projects for Heady clients like Hibbett Sports, ensuring technical excellence and expertise — and did we mention she’s also a mom of one?
